A list of 98 cities in India selected
for ‘Smart Cities’ project
·
These cities and towns were nominated
by respective States and Union Territories at the end of first stage of ‘City
Challenge’ competition in which all the urban local bodies in each State and UT
were evaluated based on their financial and institutional capacities and past
track record. He gave details of profiles of all the selected cities and towns
in terms of population and characters of each city/town.
·
24 cities are capital cities; 24 are
business and industrial centres; 18 are of cultural and tourism importance; 5
are port cities and three are educational and healthcare hubs.
·
Uttar Pradesh with 13 Smart Cities
leads the table followed by Tamil Nadu with 12 cities and Maharashtra with 10

Programme is meant for the welfare of
areas and people affected by mining related operations, using the funds
generated by the District Mineral Foundations (DMFs).
·
DMFs were created under the Mines and
Minerals (Development & Regulation) Amendment Act, 2015 in all the
districts of the country affected by mining related operations.
Housing
For All
·
The Union government has identified
305 cities and towns across nine states for implementation of its ambitious
‘Housing for All’ scheme – houses for the poor in urban areas.
·
The government has set the target to
provide houses to two crore families belonging to the economically weaker
section (EWS) in urban areas by 2022.
·
Top gains are: Chhattisgarh (36
cities/towns), Gujarat (30 cities/towns) and Jammu and Kashmir (19
cities/towns)
·
Union Government had launched this
scheme named as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in June 2015 under the aegis
of Housing for All Mission (2 crore houses) by 2022 – Coinciding with 75 years
of Independence.

·
Union Government announced One Rank
One Pension (OROP) scheme for ex-servicemen.
·
The scheme was pending for nearly four
decades. Though the scheme was announced in February 2014, it was not
