Legendary shuttler Prakash Padukone was the first Indian to win a bronze at the 1983 edition. The following are the Indian medal winners at the World Badminton Championships which started in 1977:
• Silver at 2015 Jakarta: Saina Nehwal (women's singles)
• Bronze at 2014 Copenhagen: PV Sindhu (women's singles)
• Bronze at 2013 Guangzhou (China): PV Sindhu (women's singles)
• Bronze at 2011 London: Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa (women's doubles)
• Bronze at 1983 Copenhagen: Prakash Padukone (men's singles)
With this win, Saina Nehwal moved to number 01 position in the latest World badminton rankings

Commonwealth Youth Games – 2015
·        Held at Apia (Samoa)
·        Sierra Leone's delegation of seven athletes, however, have been prevented from taking part, as the Samoan government refused to grant them visas, citing fears over the spread of ebola.

Durban to host CWG – 2022
·        The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly selected South African city Durban as the host for the XXII Commonwealth Games.
·        With this, South Africa became the first country from Africa to host the games in its 85 years history.
·        The games are scheduled to start on 18 July 2022 to mark the birth anniversary of South African anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela.
·        So far, South Africa successfully hosted the three biggest single-sport events— Rugby world cup (1995), the ICC ODI world cup (2003), and FIFA world cup (2010).

·        Commonwealth games will be the first biggest multi-disciplinary event to be held in the country.


Hangzhou to host Asian Games – 2022
·        The capital city of Zhejiang Province Hangzhou in East China was chosen by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to host the 2022 Asian Games.
·        The OCA made the decision at its 34th Congress meeting in Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan. Hangzhou was the only candidate city for the 2022 Asian Games, the XIX edition of games. 
·        It will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian games following Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.
·        Hangzhou is best known for the West Lake, a placid and tourist attraction. It is also home base of Chinese Internet (ecommerce) giant Alibaba. 
·        In 2014, Incheon, city of South Korean, hosted the Asian Games, while Indonesia’s Jakarta city is going to host the 2018 Asian Games.

·        With this win, Jayaram became the first Indian badminton player who grabbed a medal in Korea Open Badminton tournament.
·        At present, Jayram is ranked 32nd in the Men's Singles world ranking.

Pankaj Advani’s 14th title
·        India's most successful cueist Pankaj Advani added another feather to his cap by winning the IBSF World Billiards Championship by outplaying his opponent in the final to take his world title count to 14.
·        He defeated Peter Gilchris of Singapore.

·        Indian Men’s Hockey Team won the European tour by defeating Spain
·        U Mumba team won the Pro – Kabaddi League 2015 title by defeating Bengaluru Bulls
·        South Sudan: 206th country to become Olympic nation
·        Indian boxer Vikas Krishan (75kg) won the silver medal in the 2015 Asian Boxing Championships.With Vikas' silver, India finished their campaign with one silver and three bronze medals. L Devendro Singh (49kg), Shiva Thapa (56kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) won the bronze medals.
·        Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won the Guangzhou Open title of tennis. It was Sania's seventh title of the 2015 season and sixth with Hingis.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports recognized the Indian Kalarippayattu Federation as Regional Sports Federation with a view to promote and give due acknowledgement and importance to sports having regional spread pan>Commonwealth games will be the first biggest multi-disciplinary event to be held in the country.
